The Victorian Lebanese Community Council Inc. (VLCC) formed in the suburb of Bentleigh and has since received strong community interest, with a rapid growth of members from all over Victoria.
The VLCC is a community based organisation made up of eighteen board members from a diverse range of educational and professional backgrounds. The VLCC is a non-religious organisation united in its goals to address the needs of the Australian-Lebanese community. The aims of the VLCC include:
The VLCC is holding an official launch that will bring together a large group of people interested in community harmony and will celebrate the positive contributions that the Australian-Lebanese have made to the broader Victorian community. The launch will bring guests together to share different Lebanese cultural experiences, whilst offering an opportunity for shared knowledge, networking and uniting on common goals.
The VLCC official launch will be held on Wednesday 17 October 2007 with over 300 delegates expected. Expected guests range from a diversity of sectors such as Federal and State politicians, Government departments (Federal and State), community organizations, City Councils, Lebanese community leaders and associations, the Lebanese business community, Arabic and mainstream media, religious leaders, Arabic diplomats, Victoria Police, University academics and students, members from the Indigenous community and VLCC members and sponsors.
To open the evening the Australian and Lebanese anthems will be recited by a group of young Australian- Lebanese, followed by speeches by our guest speakers who include a representative from each of State and Federal government (Liberal and Labour), the Victorian Multicultural Commission, mainstream media and VLCC board members and volunteers.
During the launch, guests will also be offered insights into Lebanon and Lebanese culture and history, with further opportunity to enjoy Lebanese traditional dance entertainment and food. Activities include guest speeches, a short video, a power point presentation and a dance performance. Guests will also be provided with an information kit that consists of information related to Lebanon as a nation and the broader Lebanese community.
