14 January 2011
Floods crippling the normally sunny state of Queensland have shocked Australians and those around the world labelling it one of the worst national disasters in our nation’s history.
Areas of South East Queensland including Ipswich, Caboolture and Brisbane are the regions most greatly affected by the flooding. With search and rescue efforts continuing particularly in
Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley, fears for those who remain missing following the flash flooding on 10 January are of considerable concern.
Staying true to their generous spirit, Australians have dug deep into their pockets giving wholeheartedly whilst aiding in several charitable efforts to relieve the strain on Queenslanders. Tennis player Andy Roddick generously donated $100 for each Ace served in the Brisbane International resulting in a $10 000 donation towards the Flood Relief Appeal. Following these kind sentiments, the Victorian Lebanese Community Council is calling on the Lebanese community to donate to the victims of the flood in the affected areas of Queensland.
The repercussions of this disaster involves more than the tragic loss of life and homes and will continue to require the generosity of all while Queensland works to rebuild both its physical infrastructure and its hopeful morale, so please give generously.
In advance, the VLCC would like to thank the generous donations made in this trying time and encourage the Lebanese community to donate and maintain its enthusiasm and good will during this ongoing disaster.
For further information how to donate please, contact VLCC Chairperson Nada Naim on 0422144739.
